Just make sure your powerbank supports PD and can give the right wattage (the device needs 30W, so the powerbank or whatever external battery you use should have at least the same wattage), and don't forget to set the voltage on the cable to 12V. And yes, the cable also works with an appropriate charging block, so now I only carry one block for both my phone and laptop.
Slagle-tech tried it, it doesn't works. I also don't find it recommended to try as it may probably cause shortage and fry your circuits in longer attempts. There's a reason they've hidden it.
